Single and Ready to Mingle: 4 Ways to Make Dating Radically Awesome
Dating can be an awkward and emotionally taxing experience, but it doesn’t have to be that way. From my experience, most it’s not a problem with my companion, it’s a problem with the date itself.
Bars tend to be noisy, crowded and filled with sad people. Movies eat up half the date with silence that could be better used getting to know your new buddy.
Rather than keep playing out tired, old dating routines, try shaking it up with novel approaches to having fun with your companion.
Here are some of the awesome ways on how to Take Dating from “Whatever” to “Wheee!”
Drop Your Expectations
First off, stop looking for “the one” and start looking for an adventure buddy. Meeting for a cup of coffee may seem like a short, sweet (translation: safe) way to screen a potential mate, but let’s be honest, it really comes across as a job interview and that’s just uncomfortable.
Not to mention it’s a recipe for disappointment. Instead, try lowering your expectations. Stop measuring your dates by a fantasy image of what you want your life to be like five, ten, and twenty years from now.
No one has that sort of foresight, or control, so simply live in the present with no expectations and everything else becomes a super-fun bonus.
Speak up! If your date is taking a detour into Snoozeville, suggest a fun alternative. Like frolicking at a nearby park, splashing in a shallow puddle, or dancing with reckless abandon to some elevator music, for instance. In short, show off your personality and flexibility by turning lemons into lemonade. Your playmate will appreciate the fact that you’re not only fearless, but also interested in still sharing your company.
Try Something Different
Dinner and a movie is so cliché! Unless the dinner and movie takes place at his apartment and involves cuddling under a cozy blanket, this model of dating has boring written all over it.
Increase your chances of fun flirting by adding some competition to the equation. Karaoke happens to be a personal favorite because it involves singing, dancing, and a lot of applause. What’s not to love?

Miniature golf, bowling, hiking, a couple rounds of pool, an afternoon of body surfing at the beach, or maybe even flying a kite are all fantastic ideas to add a bit of fun and adventure to your dates.
There’s less pressure of trying to think of interesting conversation material when you’ve got some friendly competition to focus on. Better yet, invite friends along to add to the fun.
We’re Just Getting Started
